Since November 1, 2020, the Amsterdam’s low emission zone affects diesel cars, too.

But what does that mean? It means that they have to meet at least a Euro 4 standard to be allowed to circulate in the LEZ Amsterdam!

All Dutch LEZ cities alredy affect lorries. Some cities have had low emission zones affecting smaller vehicles. However, what is game-changing is that, as of now, the light duty schemes are being revised following a national framework, and the lorry schemes are being tightened.

Amsterdam’s winter for diesel cars

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, people will only be warned from November 1, 2020 to February 28, 2021, if they enter the low emission zone with a diesel vehicle that does not meet the minimum standard of Diesel Euro 4.

Drivers can check here to see if they are allowed to enter the LEZ.

In addition, as Amsterdam wants to be emission-free by 2030, the following steps are taken:

  • enlargement of the low emission zone 2020, 2025 and 2030;
  • tightening of the emission standards.
