C40 Cities & Transport Decarbonisation Alliance Webinar
Zero Emission Zones For Freight Webinar Series:
The New Norm? Lessons from the Netherlands
C40 Cities and the Transport Decarbonisation Alliance (TDA) are organising a joint webinar to showcase the inspirational work to accelerate the transition to zero emission freight in the Netherlands.
An inspiring framework
As early as 2014, cities in the Netherlands including Amsterdam, the Hague, Rotterdam and Utrecht, joined more than 50 Dutch companies in signing the national Zero Emission City Logistics Green Deal. This voluntary agreement was launched to foster public/private partnerships between the country, cities, and companies to enable the realisation of zero emission logistic zones in city centre areas by 2025.
In 2019, the National Climate Agreement defined a series of measures to be taken in the Netherlands in order to enable a reduction of least 49% carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 levels. The Agreement set out key actions on sustainable mobility and logistics including a requirement that by 2025, the 30-40 largest cities in The Netherlands introduce zero emission zones for freight.
What about the webinar
Irma Kemp, Project Manager, Zero Emission City Logistics at The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, will provide an overview of the national implementation agenda and the role played by the national government in advancing the 2025 goal, including initial successes and lessons.
Jos Streng, Transport Planner at the City of Rotterdam, will discuss the steps taken by the city to progress this goal, with a focus on the recently published “Roadmap ZECL – Moving towards Zero Emission City Logistics (ZECL) in Rotterdam in 2025” and next steps for achieving the 2025 target.
The two presentations will be followed by Q&A. Insights from this webinar will be used to inform a paper on zero emission zones for freight to be published on C40’s Knowledge Hub and also launched at the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, in May 2020.
Please note: this webinar will be open to C40 Cities Green and Healthy Streets signatory city members, the TDA Community of Interest on Urban Freight members, Transport & Environment, and POLIS/ALICE members. The webinar will be recorded and shared on C40’s Knowledge Hub and the TDA website.
