C40 Cities & Transport Decarbonisation Alliance Webinar
Zero Emission Zones For Freight Webinar Series:
Transitioning to Zero Emission Zones and Zero Emission Freight in London

C40 Cities and the Transport Decarbonisation Alliance (TDA) are pleased to invite you to the second webinar in the Zero Emission Zones for Freight webinar series. This webinar will showcase the work taking place in London to advance the transition to Zero Emission Zones (ZEZ) and zero emission freight. If you missed our first webinar Zero Emission Zones for Freight – Lessons from the Netherlands, you can watch it here.

What about the webinar

Morgan Dye, Principal City Planner at Transport for London will provide an update on zero emission zones in London, including an overview of the guidance developed for local boroughs on this topic, and a discussion of schemes that are already in place or in the pipeline (e.g. London Ultra Low Emission Zone, Hackney’s Ultra Low Emission Streets, City of London’s Beech Street scheme).

Philippa Ellis, Project Manager, Energy Systems, at the Greater London Authority, will provide an overview of the results of the Mayor of London/Gnewt Cargo trial. Funded by Innovate UK from 2017 to 2019, the project evaluated the performance, impact and commercial viability of using electric vehicles for last-mile deliveries made by Gnewt in central London. See here for the data and reports released as part of the trial.

Tom Linton-Smith, Lead, Electric Vehicles and Fleets, at the Cross River Partnership, will discuss the Smart Electric Urban Logistics (SEUL) Project. Based at the UPS North London depot, the SEUL initiative has developed new charging technology that overcomes the challenge of simultaneously recharging an entire fleet of electric vehicles without the need for an upgrade to the power supply grid. The technology, which has been developed in partnership with UPS and UK Power Networks, will allow UPS to electrify and charge its entire central London fleet of 170 vehicles without further costly and disruptive physical grid reinforcements.

The presentations will be followed by Q&A. Insights from this webinar will be used to inform a paper on zero emission zones for freight to be published on C40’s Knowledge Hub and also launched at the International Transport Forum in Leipzig, in May 2020.

Please note: this webinar will be open to C40 Cities Green and Healthy Streets signatory city members, the TDA Community of Interest on Urban Freight members, the ZEV CommunityTransport & Environment, and POLIS/ALICE members. The webinar will be recorded and shared on C40’s Knowledge Hub and the TDA website.
