A geofence is a virtual perimeter for a real-world geographic area. The perimeter can have predefined boundaries such as a school zone or a neighbourhood, or it can be dynamically generated, such as a radius around a point, or a perimeter that changes.

Geofencing is also called a “zone management system” by some vehicle manufacturers.
