Car sharing (called a car club in the UK) allows different people access to the use of a fleet of vehicles – normally owned and maintained by a private company or a cooperative – by booking a vehicle for a defined or open-ended period of time.

Car sharing works best in an urban context, addresses issues of urban space by helping to reduce the need for car ownership, and serves the target audience of those who don’t need a car for regular daily journeys.

Car sharing should be differentiated from Car Pooling.
